Globular proteins (see figure 3.19) are present in larger amounts than fibrous proteins.

The diversity of protein structures reflects the variety of functions they perform.

In turn, the diversity of functions come from:

  1. The large number of folded structures that polypeptides can adopt to.
  2. The diverse chemistry of the side chains from the 20 common amino acids and beyond.
