A host is an animal or a plant that a parasite lives on. Hosts can also be primary (i.e., amplify the host) or secondary (i.e., a dead-end host).

A vector is an animal (usually an insect or a tick) that transmits parasitic microorganisms and the diseases that they cause from host to host.

A reservoir is an (in)animate source that harbors disease-causing organisms and hence, also serves as a potential source of epidemics.
