Research has suggested that the transmission potential of DENV-3 is not lower than DENV-2 in A. aegypti.

However, the DENV-3 variant is becoming the dominant variant since 2021 and has shown an accelerating uptrend since May 2021 (while DENV-2 transmissions have declined).
