14.1 Start R and help function

• Start “R”: R icon on the desktop or startmenu
• Stop “R”: Type q() or close window
• 2 windows
  • ‘R Console’: Enter code here and see output (beware of the “+” sign!)
  • Script window: Save your code here and send it to the console (= “Do-file”)
  • Send code from script to console with CTRL + R
• R studio
  • Powerful editor that “sits on” R

  • General help with help.start() or in the menu
  • help.search(Suchwort): Search help file
  • help(function) or ?function
    • Get help for certain objects/functions
    • e.g. call plot.html with ?plot (Explain help file structure!) or ?ls
