This book is written for use in POLI 2900: Methods of Political Research at the University of New Orleans. It was originally written for the Fall of 2019, but will continue to be updated after that class. In this book I cover quantitative research techniques common to the social sciences as well as attempt to develop student’s skills in programming. In order to practice programming and learn quantitative methods, we will utilize R, a popular programming language for data scientists and researchers. This book is written with the goal of explaining the concepts and code to students with zero previous background in programming or data analysis.

The emphasis of this book is not on doing math manually or calculation, but rather on interpretation. Every statistic that is used is described, but more discussion is placed on the practical applications and how to interpret or use the results that R produces.
