1.1 Knowing the analysis to use
Before you start to use jamovi or SPSS, you need to know why you need the software.
If you have two qualitative variables, you probably need:
- A chi-square test to analyse the data;
and
- A side-by-side barchart
to display the data graphically. (At the time these notes were prepared, jamovi does not produce stacked barcharts; SPSS does.)

- A two-sample \(t\)-test to analyze the data; and
- An error bar chart (and perhaps a boxplot) to display the data graphically.
