Data security & ethics (3): Protection
- Ecrypt sensitive data: Veracrypt (formerly Truecrypt, see Wikipedia)
- Never use the same password twice
- e.g. if one and the same password is stored in the database of 10 companies the probability increases that it will be leaked one day
- Use a password messenger (e.g., LastPass) that stores different passwords for each website (Own experience: be strategic!)
- Use 2-Factor Authentication
- Messengers: Use end-to-end encryption if possible (Signal, Threema BUT NOT Telegram!)
- Ideally, they encrypt with whom you communicate as well!
- Use a secure Email provider (client-side encryption), e.g., protonmail (Gmail has access to your emails)
- Think/Decide about how much data you would like to share…
- Use Tor Browser for sensitive stuff (Q: Why is the symbol an onion?)
