6.3 If data should answer questions then who is asking?

As data scientists we principally seek to provide evidence-based analysis. So what are the questions and who is asking? Knowing this helps us analyse and communicate effectively.

  • Sometimes questions clearly come from the client/user/target group.
  • Sometimes we have to ask for the question.
  • Sometimes we have to provide the question.
  • Sometimes we have to discover the question.

There are no hard and fast rules, so this is a skill we need to develop if we are to become effective data scientists.
