2.1 Goals

The goals of this chapter are for you to be able to:

• have an appreciation of the richness of data, the extent to which data are diverse but also ubiquitous
  
• be familiar with some of the major sources of free and publicly available data repositories and archives
  
• create and manipulate vector and data frame variables in R
  
• to be able to import and export simple text files e.g., CSV into/from an R program

Remember weekly checklists (as text files) can be grabbed from here. Edit this list into whatever Checklist system you use. You should do this straight away before you forget!
