3.6 Data security & ethics (3): Protection

  • Ecrypt sensitive data: Veracrypt (formerly Truecrypt, see Wikipedia)
  • Never use the same password twice
    • e.g. if one and the same password is stored in the database of 10 companies the probability increases that it will be leaked one day
    • Use a password messenger that stores different passwords for each website (Own experience: be strategic!)
  • Use 2-Factor Authentication
  • Use end-to-end encryption if possible (e.g. right now - Dec 2018 - Facebook messenger does not have end-to-end encryption by default.. as far as I know)
  • Decide about how much data you would like to share…
  • Ideally use Tor Browser (Q: Why is the symbol an onion?)
