12.1 What Specific Items Should We Focus on First?

RWA was run at the item level for the three areas of focus (Alignment of Priorities, Confidence in Direction, and Manager Feedback). The dependent variable remained Intent to Stay and the independent variables were each of the individual item responses for the areas of focus. Operations and Sales were run separately at first but the results were very similar so the output below is for both Operations and Sales combined into a single dataset.

The output shows that the items carrying the most weight are

  • ALGN3 - Business unit objectives are clearly communicated throughout the organization.

  • CONF3 - The organization is making the changes necessary to compete effectively.

  • CONF1 - I believe the company is making meaningful changes that will result in a better customer experience.

  • ALGN1 - The priorities of my work group are aligned with those of other work groups in this organization.

  • FEED4 - The feedback that I receive from my supervisor is useful to improving my performance.*

*Recall that Manager Feedback is not a significant predictor for Operations.

These five items account for 63.26% of the 45% of variance that all these constructs contribute to Intent to Stay. Focusing on these five items offers the biggest bang for the buck.
