2.15 Activity: Gender and the U.S. Congress

In 2020 Kamala Harris made history as the first Vice President of the U.S to identify as female. This is the highest elected office ever held by a woman. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called it a “groundbreaking achievement.”

Moreover, a record number of women (144) are currently serving in the U.S. Congress. With all of this groundbreaking and record setting, we might wonder if we still have more ground left to break. In this activity, we’ll explore the question,

Is there a gender disparity in the U.S. Congress?
