Chapter 31 Unsecret Emotions
by Gökşen Vural
I startled by a voice that said “hey!” and came to myself. I was staring at something again, thinking. It took me a while to come to my senses. Turning to the source of the sound and I said “Yes?”. “Hello, I found that you are sorry. Is there anything I can do to help?” he asked. I couldn’t tell if it was real or a hologram. With a rude gesture, I hit with my hand on his stomach. “Aww,“ he said,”I’m a human”. I was tired of this situation now, it was hard for me to understand what was real and what was unreal. “I’m sorry,“ I said, maintaining my dull expression,”I developed such a technique to understand in a short way”. ”It’s okay, if you’re not sorry, you don’t have to say so,“ he said, maintaining his politeness, and when there was no response from me, he continued, ”I understand you, I think it’s very confusing”. After looking at him for a while, I turned in front of me, and he sat down next to me.
I was keeping my silence. I was tired of someone coming up and talking about my feelings in my face. Technology has surrounded the four corners of humanity and has not even left us a place to live on our own. I think Emotional AI, which was developed many years ago, should not have been made available to society. Besides, why does everyone want to know who feels what? Being constantly monitored and followed is a part of life now. People don’t seem to mind it. I’m one of the few people in your life who wants privacy. Every part of life is managed by AI’s and we are the people who have led to this happening.
Emotional AI had developed so much that people could understand the feelings of the people next to them by integrating AI’s themselves into them. When you were walking down the street, someone passing by was telling you to your face how you were feeling at that moment, as it had just happened. When talking to your partner, s/he would instantly identify your sadness or anger that you didn’t want him/her to know about. As a teenager, it had already been a dream to lie to the family and go to a concert or a trip, because parents immediately knew if their children were lying. I didn’t think this would be a bad thing when I was little. It should be a violation of personal space for someone to identify your every emotion, analyze your facial expressions and evaluate your speech. I can’t even sit on a bench by myself and be sad. Immediately, someone comes and says that s/he understands this. Of course, a preventive has not been developed in these situations since the beginning. This situation also helps the states. In one hand, people control each other, and on the other hand the states control people with monitoring methods on the streets.
While I was surfing in my thoughts“ “Well,“ he said, paused, looked at me and said,”I told you that you were sorry, won’t you tell me why?, ” he added. “That’s why,” I said. He looked at me with an incomprehensible expression. I said, ”It bothers me that someone understands my feelings without my permission and makes money from it.” “Don’t you think it’s a good thing that humanity has become so transparent? Isn’t it easier to understand who is good and who is bad and communicate because we know what people are feeling?” he asked. ”It’s not,” I said quickly, as if I needed to say my thought quickly.
“No, because half of the things we see outside aren’t even real people, they’re holograms. Just things that walk down the street, collect our data, observe our every move. While people thank the things they can do without leaving home with their holograms, our whole lives are monitored thanks to the data they collect without noticing. And I don’t have to share my feelings openly with anyone. Besides, didn’t anyone understand anyone before this technology? This technology is only useful to those who want to rule us completely. They give you this emotional AI as a toy and comfort you. Even in the programs you watch on TV, the content is prepared according to the person now. The text is prepared according to the mood in a way that will interest you. We don’t even know if the people we are watching are real. I think most of them participate as holograms. Reality and unreality are mixed together…” His gaze was gradually changing towards me as I was saying my thoughts in succession. He was looking at me like I was saying really bad things to him. Then he turned his head and said, “This shows that we are special. Each of us is special, so they make everything special to us,” he said with a nonchalant attitude. He wanted to ignore the facts because it was hard to be unorthodox, to rebel. They had gradually accustomed the society to all this, so no one noticed and complained about it.
“Aren’t you afraid the technological life you are living?”I said. “Why should I be scared ?” he said with an incomprehensible expression. ”Because everything you do is recorded somewhere,“ I replied and continued, “The time you get up in the morning, the food you eat, the place you go, the people you meet or talk to, the sites you log in to, the clothes you buy or think about buying, your feelings, everything, everything…”. He didn’t look at me and didn’t answer. He seemed to be thinking. I continued in the hope of being able to convince him, “All of this information may be in the state administrators. Don’t you have a dark side that you’re afraid of at all? Or a hacker can get into the system, access your information and harm you, or be a guide to someone who wants to harm you.”. ”Why do you think such things, it’s not possible,” he said. He thinks what I’m saying might be true, but he didn’t want to admit it. I still wouldn’t shut up, “Let’s say someone wants to hurt you, they can make it easier by learning everything in their daily routine. He can steal your bank details, sneak into your house, follow you. Other than that, I think it’s bad enough that someone can only understand their feelings”. “Nonsense”“ he hissed through between his teeth, “why should it be bad? You are crazy,” he said and quickly left my side. I wasn’t surprised. “Here,“ I said to myself,”someone else ignored you. As always”. So I got up and started walking with my thoughts. > Written with StackEdit.
