4.1 Introduction

The following section presents the cleaned demographic data for women in the county who participated in the survey. Some of the original variables were collapsed for better interpretations, but the full distributions are available in the Appendix and referenced in the write up. Please note that all data visualizations presented in this section are interactive; hover to see the percentages.

92% of respondents that completed the survey lived in Forsyth County while 8% lived outside of Forsyth County. The map of Forsyth County shows the distribution of women by zip code with the highest percentage of respondents, 38%, residing in the 27104 or 27106 zip codes. Approximately 45% of women who responded fell into the Generation X category (per generational categories from Pew Research Center)— born between 1960 and 1980. As a note, no survey respondents reported being born before 1943 or after 2002. Please refer to the Appendix for the full distribution of respondents by year of birth.

A majority of respondents (60%) were married.

36% of women had a Bachelor’s degree, 36% had a Master’s degree, and another 16% had a Doctorate or other advanced degree. Less than 3% of women had only a high school degree or less.

The overwhelming majority of respondents identified as a professional woman.
