Chapter 1 Introduction

In the context of testing the Basic Social Justice Orientations scale (BSJO) in Chile, a reproduction of results reported in the original paper (Hülle, Liebig, and May (2018)) was conducted. The objective of this report is to analyze the reproducibility standard of the study, i.e., assessing if the same results can be achieved using the original data (Peng 2011). Additionally, I conducted additional analyses regarding the dimensional structure of the scale, analyzing the bivariate distribution and using exploratory factor analysis. The original article uses three data sources for testing the scale in the German context:

  1. SOEP-IS 2012: Innovation Sample of the Socio-Economic Panel
  2. LINOS-1 2012/2013: Legitimation of Inequality Over the Life Span
  3. ALLBUS 2014: German General Social Survey (Allgemeine Bevölkerungsumfrage der Sozialwissenschaften)

This report reproduces results with the two available data sources: ALLBUS 2014 and SOEP-IS 2012.

In the next sections I start by briefly introducing the BSJO measurement instrument in chapter 2 and importing the respective data files in chapter 3. Then in chapters 4 and 5 the main results of the published article are assessed in terms of reproducibility. Finally, in chapter 6 I explore the bivariate distribution and the dimensionality of the scale by means of factor analysis.
