4 The Startup and the Effects of Covid-19

Having started in July 2019, we initially planned to take full advantage of meetings with our influencers and to make ourselves known through trade shows and events organized by key players in the legal industry. However, Covid-19 came and disrupted our plans by abruptly closing all avenues of direct communication with travel restrictions and social distancing measures.

We quickly found ourselves facing the paradox of the legal community. On one hand, resistance to the digitization of documents was diminishing due to the risk of office closures and the fear of losing access to information. On the other hand, the fear of losing control over analyses by allowing machines to perform them significantly hindered any openness to new proposals

The forced transition to an all-digital environment was a source of concern, and it was imperative for us to transform this fear into an opportunity for our offering. We needed to refocus on the fundamental needs of legal professionals.

The answer to the first need was provided to me by Pierre, where he emphasized that an attorney must be, above all, a trusted expert for their client. It is one of the primary qualities, among others, of experts to reassure their clients.

Therefore, we had to demonstrate that Theolex was there to accompany and assist legal professionals in maintaining, or even enhancing, their expertise without fearing any alteration of the information provided by the application. To achieve this, we entrusted this task to Joydeep once again. Only Joydeep, with his level of expertise, could validate the information generated by the tool.

It was essential to reassure users by showing them that the human aspect was still present in our approach. Joydeep, as a trusted expert, would verify the results of the application to ensure their reliability and accuracy.

This approach was crucial in establishing the necessary trust among legal professionals. They knew they could rely on Theolex to support them in their daily work and maintain their expertise while leveraging the benefits of the digital tool.

By highlighting the collaboration between our technology and Joydeep’s human expertise, we succeeded in transforming the fear of automation into an opportunity for improvement for Theolex users.
