Chapter 3 Random variables

At this point, it will be very useful to introduce the concept of random variables. A random variable is something that can vary - it is a numeric variable for which we do not yet know its future outcome. Random variables are often denoted by \(X\). There are two main types of random variables: continuous and discrete.
