Chapter 2 FEC Overview
The Faculty Examinations Committee (FEC) process is basically used to confirm which students are allowed to progress with their degrees or not. The process involves considering every student’s entire transcript and ensuring they have not broken any so-called progression rules. In AcSci, this is even more complicated because of things like BUS2016H entrance, not being allowed to fail MAM1/STA1, and other things.
Once all students have been considered, they are each given a progression code. These codes are passed on to the FEC, where certain codes might need to be justified (for example, when a student is not allowed to continue with their degree and must change faculties).
FEC happens at the end of a year (and again in Jan for DEs and SUPPs).
The FEC rules are often changed or implemented in different ways and so it is important to attend the training sessions that happen every FEC cycle.
Thankfully, this process is largely automated for AcSci using the UCTAS-stuman
programme. More on that later.
