Chapter 1 Assumptions
The assumptions of the one-way ANOVA test can be summarised as follows:
One-way ANOVA Assumptions:
- The data are numeric
- Independence of observations
- The random errors are normally distributed
- The population variances for each group are equal.
As we can see, these assumptions are not dissimilar to the assumptions we have seen previously for the independent samples \(t\)-test. However, here we will be checking for normality of the random errors, which will be discussed later. In order to check for normality of the random errors, we will need to carry out the test first. For that reason, we will check the assumptions after carrying out the one-way ANOVA test.
