Sometimes you may want or need support from outside the classroom. Here’s a list of some resources who can offer various forms of help.
Please remember that you don’t need to be in A Major Crisis to reach out to these folks! Sometimes it can feel awkward to ask for help – but drawing on these resources, to a greater or lesser extent, is normal. That’s what they’re there for.
- Student Success and Advising is a nice place to start; this page has lots of links to various people and services.
- The Dean of Students, aka Division of Student Life is a great general resource; the deans are especially helpful if you’re dealing with issues that affect your academic performance in multiple areas, because they can help you coordinate with all your courses and professors (whereas I typically only see a slice of your life!).
- As noted elsewhere, the AccessAbility folks can help you work through questions around disability, accessibility, and accommodations.
- Health Services is the place to go for more general health questions. In particular, the Counseling Service is there to help with mental health and just living your good life.
- The folks at Community and Inclusion are focused on access, diversity, equity, and inclusion. They have many programs and forms of support, including specialized resources for first-gen and low-income students, undocumented and DACA students, and LGBTQIA+ students.
- Religious and Spiritual Life offers support around spiritual, moral, and emotional life. You do not have to be religious to talk to these folks! College chaplains and religious advisors are a chill bunch of people, as a rule.
